Roman Franc is a doctoral candidate and newly an external lecturer at the Institute of Creative Photography at the Faculty of Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava. He primarily focuses on unconventional portrait and staged photography (such as the series Sokolové: Věrná Garda, My Little Miracles, Brácha, Portréty, Grupy). He is also involved in architectural photography as well as curatorial and publishing activities (for example, he prepared a retrospective and monograph of the forgotten photographer Karel Novák for the Moravian Gallery in Brno). He is the author and co-author of several books (House of Essens, Jmenuji se Hladový bizon, Watch the Birdie!, Fenomén Zbrojovka). He has worked on projects with the presidential office of Václav Havel and is also the adoptive son of a Navajo tribe shaman, Black Horse.

His photographs are part of the collections of the Moravian Gallery in Brno, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the Library of Congress in Washington, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, and the Zillman Art Museum in the USA.
